Plastic Carry Bags

Recently the government of Andhra Pradesh has banned the use of plastic carry bags with thickness less than 40 microns. The move has come very late, before us most of the other states have already banned the plastic carry bags.

Why plastic carry bags of less than 40 microns are banned? How does the thickness of the plastic carry bag play a role? These are some important questions for which we need to know the answers.

Plastic carry bags are made from polyethylene, which consists of long chains of ethylene monomers. This is non degradable. The plastic carry bags of less than 20 microns thickness are non degradable and non recyclable, which is the most important reason for the ban. However carry bags with 40 microns thickness and more, even though are non degradable but can be recycled.

Whatever steps the government is taking is not enough. Everyday tonnes of plastic is dumped in the garbage which is affecting our environment in different ways.

Blocking the drainage systems and thereby contributing to flooding.
Cause floating marine debris in the ocean.
Cattle sometimes consume the plastic from the debris. This plastic then chokes their intestine, due to which they cannot take any food and slowly die due to hunger.  
Tonnes of plastic are dumped on the earth surface, in course of time the soil becomes toxic due to presence of non degradable plastic and thereby turning it infertile for cultivation.

These are few examples of how the plastic is affecting our environment.

Only we can save our environment, possibly by.......

Ban completely the usage of plastic in any form.
Always carry cloth bags when visiting a market. 
If you are forced to use plastic, then use only thick plastic carry bags and dispose them properly so that they can be collected for recycling.
Get two dustbins, mark one as "wet" and other "dry". Add vegetable garbage into wet dustbin and add plastics, broken, non working  bulbs and tubes etc., into dry dustbin. The garbage in the wet dustbin can be used as bio fertilizer in the gardens. The garbage in the dry dustbin can be sent for recycling.

These are few thoughts from my end. I know there are many nature loving people out there with novel thoughts. Think and implement your thoughts to protect the nature. We can make a difference.

Why is DNA, the genetic material. Why not RNA?

No, both DNA and RNA are considered to be genetic material. However DNA is the genetic material in almost all the organisms, except few viruses which have RNA as their genetic material. 

The reason for DNA being the genetic material comes from its stability. DNA is more stable than RNA.
DNA as we know has deoxyribose sugar, it lack the 2' -OH group, whereas RNA posses the 2' -OH group.
Because DNA lacks the OH group it is less reactive, it doesnt easily react. However RNA reacts easily due to the presence of -OH group.

What's the difference between DNA and RNA?

DNA and RNA, both are nucleic acids. They are composed of repeating units of nucleotides. Again each nucleotide consists of a sugar, a phosphate and a nucleic acid base. The main difference comes from the sugar present in DNA and RNA. The sugar in DNA is deoxyribose whereas in RNA it is ribose. The deoxyribose sugar lacks 2' hydroxyl (oxygen-hydrogen atom combination called a hydroxyl).






Another difference comes from the composition of the nucleotides. DNA has repeating units of Adenine, Guanine, Thymine and Cytosine. However RNA has all the bases except Thymine, instead of thymine it has Uracil.

China's Bullet Trains!! What about India ? ?

This is about the news i heard about china in a news channel. Its about the bullet trains in china. It seems that china has over 150 bullet trains operating. These are not ordinary trains, they are high speed trains which travel at 350 kmph.  Presently they are operating between beijing and shangai. In ordinary train it takes 12 hours to travel from beijing to shangai and viceversa. But the bullet train just takes 4 hours to cover the distance.

Nothing new about the bullet trains, they are already there in europe, japan etc., but when it comes to china its new. Its about the growth of china. Growth in terms of technology. Their desire to prove their dominance.

We need to appreciate the communist government in china, its they who are pushing the chinese power to the extreme. They are slowly but carefully moving up the ladder in all departments. Competing with the so called dominant nations, in technology, research etc.,

If we are talking about china, then we need to talk about india as well. Since there is no difference between both these nations, except the language. Mostly, both the nations are same, consider population, culture, natural resources.

If that is the case why india does not have the bullet trains. If china has 150, cant india have atleast one. we need to ask ourself the question why??

If you think deep, the answer is simple its the people. The people of china are against corruption, the flow of money is streamlined to reach proper channels so that it can be spent on development, welfare. Why talk about the people, because its the people who form the government and run it.

Consider the same for india, its rich in everything over china, but still.... they do not have the technology. Here the people are choosing wrong persons as their representatives. Because of this, flow of money is not streamlined, whoever is running the government they are misusing the funds allotted, using it for their own benefit instead of investing in development and welfare.

This is an unending discussion. But would request everyone to stop corruption, stop blaming the politician alone. Think whether we are electing the right people? Let the end of corruption begin from us, rest will change automatically.

I wish to see a day when india has its own bullet trains, atleast one!!
